Our Chesterfields and Club Chairs all start with the frame which is the heart of a Distinctive Chesterfield and although most of this is not seen, the same care is employed here as with say, the hand finished leathers. This important part of the sofa or chair is constructed using only the finest hardwoods, selected for strength and longevity, hand formed by time served craftsmen. All the component parts are assembled, again by hand using screws and dowels with corner blocks to provide added strength to the frame. Naturally every Chesterfield or Club Chair is stringently checked for shape and to ensure that it is absolutely square.

When the frame is complete we can now see the shape and size of the Chesterfield or Club Chair and this is then passed through to our skilled polisher to add finish to those parts of the frame that will be exposed, legs and feet for example. Several coats of polish are applied by hand in a traditional manner and this is allowed to harden in a temperature controlled environment for at least 48 hours. When our quality controller is fully satisfied with the frame, only then can it proceed to the next stages of careful manufacture.
