The proportions of the Wessex Chesterfield Sofa are generous and give it a highly distinctive look. In common with all Distinctive Chesterfields, the Wessex begins with the handmade frame, and we use only sustainable hardwoods for this and all our products, which we then fully spring the frame prior to it being upholstered.

The cushions are loose filled, fully stuffed to generous sizes, and the base is finished with brass castors, all of which gives the Wessex its classic look. The colour and choice of leather finish will depend to a large extent on your personal choice and the surroundings into which the Wessex will be placed. However, this Distinctive Chesterfield looks really good in premium leather, particularly in the colour black.

We offer three types of leather from which you can choose, each differing in feel or look. Our standard leather range is our antique range; the process gives an authentic, antiqued appearance. For something more in your sofa or chair, the premier leather range is pre treated and we can offer a vast range of nineteen colours. However, the ultimate has to be hand dyed leather processed in a time honoured way, just as it has been for centuries. In common with all our products, the Buckingham is hand made to the most exacting standards, built over a hardwood frame, with deep sprung back and arms, sporting distinctive lines most notably a crested back, and slashed arms, which set this range apart from the rest. The classical look is completed by contoured lines and single buttoned facings, with the sofa available as a two, three or four seta version and low club chairs and footstools to match.

We consider that the hand dying of our fine grain leathers is the best that is available for our hand made Chesterfield products. The finishing of the leather in this manner is a time honoured and a truly traditional method of colouring the natural product and certainly gives individuality to the chesterfield.

The way in which our time served professional leather craftsmen colour finish this is the way that it has been done for centuries. Firstly the leather is vegetable tanned and then it is dyed by hand by the craftsman. It is then sealed and then carefully fitted to the chesterfield sofa or chair. This traditional way ensures that the leather has a finish which is deep and rich in colour; because the leather is fine grained it is soft to the touch and over time will develop its own individual patina and will improve with age, just right for a traditional chesterfield.

We have recently introduced our Suffolk range of Distinctive Chesterfield because you demanded it and we can understand the reason for this. Without doubt the Suffolk, when highly polished in our red antique leather finish, just looks the part and it is both slim and comfortable.

The Suffolk is simply made for a hotel lobby or comfy bar area, but looks equally as good in a home setting. The Suffolk Chesterfield has slimline arms with a fully buttoned interior and is can be made as a two or three seat version. We can combine this with a number of low chairs, plus matching footstools if required, perfect for your living room.

Naturally, our Suffolk range is available in the three styles of leather finish with all the colours we produce, but we are sure that when you see this in antique leather finish, this could be the one of your choice.

Leather is a natural product which not only looks good, can be stained and hand finished to a variety of colours and types, but is a warm long lasting durable material, in fact it has been ideal for covering chairs, sofas, and other items for hundreds of years.

If plastic had been around a couple of hundred years ago, can you imagine ever seeing an original piece on show today in a stately home? We don’t believe so and if it was, it would have a really hard feel and be cracked or split. With leather we can produce a leather finish that entirely suits the requirements of the user, will still feel warm and soft to the touch, and given the right care and maintenance will give years of service and although it will mature, it will still look as good as when it was first made by Distinctive Chesterfields.
